News & Issues From Around Our World

People of African descent cccupy nearly every corner of the earth. Our early and recent migration across the world's many continents, and our involuntary scattering by way of the brutal transatlantic slade trade have ironically resulted in a global presence that has and continues to leave an indelible mark on the world.

We are indeed world citizens, and with world citizenship comes the responsibility to BE INFORMED AND ENGAGED in the affairs of humanity both here and abroad. Likewise, our ability to navigate the world beyond the confines of our own homes, towns, and borders is imperative to our full participation in an ever diverse and

expanding world culture and economy.

SisterSpeak urges all of our readers to look beyond our borders and to embrace our role as world citizens

AND world changers in whatever capacity suits us best. And as we look out and move about,

let us particularly embrace Africa, the land of our origin, the birthplace of mankind--

whose children are spread far and wide. Let us remember that we are one with Africa--

as we are one with all of humanity.

RIDING THE OBAMA TRAIN!

SisterSpeak is following the Presidential race closely, and we're hot on Barack Obama's campaign trail. Obama's candidacy marks an unprecedented moment in American history and we plan to watch this journey unfold state by state. Regardless of your politics of political affiliation, one must admit that watching Obama is a refreshing experience. Few candidates move us in the way he does because unlike most candidates, Obama is real. He speaks from the heart rather than by carefully prescribed notes. He's genuine and you get the sense that when he speaks to you, he is taking the time to empathize with your issue or concern---not simply posturing for a 'presidential' photo opportunity. What will the outcome be of Election '08? Time will tell, but Obama tops our list for the next Commander in Chief. To stay abreast of developments on the campaign trail, visit www.barackobama.com daily.

Says SisterSpeak Editor-in-chief Lisa Peyton-Caire who met the Senator at a Washington, DC fundraiser, "There's something special and refreshingly different about Barack Obama. He stands out from the crowd in a profound way. Not only is he humble and extremely intelligent, but there's an aura of integrity that surrounds him; you sense that his concern for all Americans--all people-- is real. I'll definitely be following his presidential journey."
