THE BEAUTY OF RED: NOT JUST FOR VIXENS!
by Lisa Peyton-Caire
Red has long been associated with the vixen—that scandalous temptress with questionable motives, out to devour her unsuspecting prey. We’ve all fit that description at least once in our lives I’m sure (my lips are sealed!) but let’s not give red a bad rap.
Red happens to be one of the most beautiful and vibrant colors on the color spectrum with life-bearing properties that evoke energy and confidence, generate warmth and heat, and if chosen in the right shade, can compel a healthy and positive flow of energy. It’s no wonder that red is prominent in many of the oldest cultures of the world not only in clothing, textiles, cosmetics, and art, but also in healing rituals (think of the beautiful vibrant red of the Masai people of Kenya, East Africa).
And yes it's true, red has been known to evoke romantic passion, and to stimulate the mind and body into action. I feel especially energized, powerful, and radiant when I wear red (my cardinal color as a bona fide Aries) and highly recommend that every woman adorn her wardrobe with a few essential red pieces; a red blazer, jacket, or coat (see our pick below in faux fur); a red silk blouse (to suit your casual, office, or evening look), a red evening gown, a pair of classy red evening pumps; and a classic red evening purse. You may want to throw in a pair of casual red pumps or boots for everyday wear with jeans or slacks.
In the beauty and fashion world, red remains a year-round, multi-season winner with many tones and hues to choose from. And I happen to believe, contrary to long held misconceptions, that there’s a red for every woman regardless of skin tone. So as you celebrate the month of love--and recommit to a year of confidence and personal power, I urge you to take the time to find the shade of red that’s right for you and see how quickly you fall in love with this essential color!
See how the celebs step out in racy, passionate, confident, awe-inspiring red!
